Today I learned two valuable lessons....
I recently bought a season pass to Seven Peaks but my work schedule and some gloomy weather have been preventing me from going until today. All I could think about all week was seven peaks seven peaks seven peaks. I had one thing in sight today when I got home from work and that was getting myself to seven peaks. I was so focused on getting there that I completely forgot my sun screen. "Oh well" I thought. "I don't burn that easily anyway." So I spread my towel out and for several hours I laid right under the lovely sunshiney heat rays.
To make a long story short, I came home burnt as a crisp. I was a walking heater. My mom gave me one look down and handed me her bottle of gel. My step dad loves to make jokes and said, " wouldn't it have been nice to put sun screen on just once in the beginning to prevent yourself from having to put gel on later every 30 minutes?"
Lesson learned: Don't be so focused on one great thing that you forget the little things that make it great. (aka: sun screen)
My second lesson come from my ride home from Seven Peaks. While driving on University Avenue, we noticed a small group of ducklings stuck between a sidewalk they couldn't jump over and an extremely busy road. How they got there? Who knows! Mama duck was nowhere to be seen. So we quickly turned the car around in hope that they hadn't crossed yet. Luckily, Colby had a basket in his trunk and long story short, we were able to cover them with it before they ran into the road. Stopping traffic in the process. (people can be so nice when it comes to baby duckling lives at stake).Unfortunately, one little duckling saw us coming and ran from the group into the road. We ran as fast as we could after it yelling for it to come back but in the end, we had to look away.
After searching some more for their mama we ended up taking them to the Lindon Nursery. The sweet old lady there seemed to know everything about ducks and told us they were only a couple of days old and wouldn't have been able to survive on their own without their mom. They were all shivering so she put them on some hay under a heat lamp and gave them proper food and water. We left assured they they were in good hands. :)
Lessons learned: 1.) Sometimes we are faced with two choices. One, (the sidewalk) seems too high and too hard. But with effort, we eventually come out on top. The other, (the road) seems easy and often times welcoming. But in the end it can be very dangerous and lead to disaster.
2.) We have a Heavenly Father who is is constantly watching over us and can see the danger ahead that we're often blind to. He never stops calling after us to come back into the fold.
3.) He is omniscient. He knows what we need not only to survive but to grow.
