Seagull-isms

As I have worked at Seagull Book, I have become more and more aware of that concept of walking into each others lives for a reason. The customers have become more than just 'customers'. They're people, with trials, heartaches, and lives full of experiences just like you and I. There have been some really incredible people I've met just by taking a little extra time to find out about them.

A lady with no hair came in a couple weeks ago and she was absolutely glowing from the inside out!

"Hi! I'm looking for a hat! I usually wear wigs but i'm learning to let go of my vanity and just enjoy what I have."
I asked her a couple of questions and she shared with me her story of finding out her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and 3 weeks later discovering she too had cancer (ovarian, stage 4). She was so happy though! Like nothing in the world could bring her down. She shared with me her blog which is just as inspiring as she is in real life. If you want to check it out its: craigandmichele.blogspot.com.

She also started up another blog for people to read the scriptures in 70 days and to share insights on. I love it. Here is the link for that one:

(I hope she doesn't mind me posting this picture from her blog. What a neat lady!)

Here's another Seagull story:
An older man (late 60's early 70's) came in the other night with his wife and stuck around for about an hour just chatting with me and my coworker. He looked at and treated me like I was a good friend of his and when he found out I was going to BYU, he ran out to his car and brought in all this BYU stuff for me to have. He was one of the happiest men I had ever met. He joked around with me a lot in a fake italian accent, occasionally would sing, "i've got the whole world..in my hands",  and shared some really inspiring, life changing stories with me.

One of the things I really loved about him was that he would be in the middle of a story with me and the second his wife would say something to him, he stopped right where he was at and gave her his undivided attention with a big smile on his face.

When he went out to his car, I said to his wife, "I just adore your husband!!" When I said this, she pulled me closer and whispered in my ear:

"ya know... not a lot of people know this, but he was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2010 and he really shouldn't be alive. Every time we go into the hospital the doctors always say, 'we don't know what it is you're doing, but keep doing it!' I am convinced he is still alive and walking because he holds no grudges, forgives everyone, and is always looking to spread sunshine in others lives."

I stood in awe at this story and when the two of them left, I felt a little sad because I enjoyed their company so much. What I loved though, is that I was a complete stranger to them and they treated me like I was important and special. As he was walking out he was talking to almost every person he saw. I kept thinking he knew them somehow, but he didn't.

I want to be just like this man! He left every person he met better than he found them. And he was pulling a handcart of his own in his life and he still looked to help others carry theirs.

Last thought: He brought a book up to the counter and said to me, "little lady, if I could recommend any book to you to change your life besides the Book of Mormon I would recommend this one. It had absolutely changed my life."

This will be my next buy when I've got some spending money!

God knows you're not perfect

The bishop came and spoke to the Relief Society today. (Ah, Sundays are when I miss Rexburg the most...) He gave an incredibly inspired lesson and it seemed like every word that came out of his mouth were things that I had learned this past week. I love when people teach by the spirit, and when the spirit tailors and personalizes it to our individual needs. It's a kind little reminder of just how aware our Father in Heaven is of us.

At the end of the lesson he showed us this great video. And I just loved it. So I thought I'd share. :)

God knows you're not perfect.

Listen, and follow the uncomfortable suggestions that he makes to us

Everything will fall into it's place
Avoid any fear like your worst enemy
but magnify your fear about the consequences of sin

If something is wrong, God will give you clarity but never doubts

Divine light develops in places of peace and quiet.

In thoroughness is satisfaction

The pain of sacrifice lasts only one moment, it is the fear of the pain of sacrifice that makes you hesitate to do it.

And my personal favorite:
The greatest achievement that can be reached in our lives, is to be under the complete influence of the Holy Ghost

Every Day I'm Snufflin'

Well Folks,
It's Spring time and allergies are floating all throughout the air!
It gets me pretty bad every single year. (Swollen, bloodshot, itchy eyes and runny nose)
But!
After years of dealing with this, someone finally told me a good remedy!
Honey.
Good ol' local honey.
Made by the sweet little bees of your very own area.
I slab some on my toast every morning and it gets me through the day.
